West Point aiming to bounce back

West Point is finally seeing some of the form it showed in the FV state league 5 west pre-season.

Coming off a strong pre-season, which included making it to the fourth round of the Australia Cup, the side had high hopes for the state league season.

But injuries slowed the side early in the season, leaving them sitting fifth as the halfway point of the season approaches.

Coach Tim Hallows said it hadn’t been the start to the season they had been hoping for.

“We played with some injuries for the first half of the season,” he said.

“One week we had 12 players out, most weeks we’ve had half a dozen out. We’re finally getting some bodies back and now we’re hoping we can push some of the sides above us in the second half of the season.”

Hallows said among their first half of the season there had been some bad results, but they were starting to put together performances at the level they expect to be,

He said despite not sitting where they would have liked pre-season, they were still in a better spot than they were this time last year both on field and off field.

West Point is set to face Lara United on Saturday, the last of the first round of match ups for the season.

Hallows said the focus was on winning all their remaining matches and seeing what happens.

“We’ll take each week as it comes and push those who are above us,” he said.

“We will try and grab three points each week and see where we finish and see where it takes us next year.

“Promotion we’re realistic about. We need others to lose points [games] and it’s very tough.”
