Old Geelong Road in Hoppers Crossing is closed city bound at the new road bridge due to a serious collision.
Police are directing commuters onto the bridge to cross the train line and drivers can then use the inbound entry to the Princes Freeway and exit at Forsyth Road to return to Old Geelong Road.
Motorists are also being warned of growing congestion in the area, including on Old Geelong Road in both directions, Morris Road and Heaths Road.
The VicRoads signals team is monitoring conditions and adjusting traffic lights to assist with detours and Victoria Police will reopen the road when investigations are complete.
