Wyndham council’s 2022-23 proposed draft budget has been released for public feedback.

The suggested budget would allocate $168.3 million in Capital Works to upgrade local infrastructure and $32.3 million for crucial upgrades and maintenance work on roads in the municipality.

To improve parks, open spaces and streetscapes and deliver a “more liveable city” council has contributed $19.8 million.

Wyndham Mayor Peter Maynard said the budget is focused on “building a better Wyndham”.

“Improving City pride is a key focus for this council term. We want to reduce litter, improve our parks and streetscapes and make our residents proud to live in Wyndham,” he said.

Council said they’re ramping up the fight against litter and dumped rubbish, and “special litter blitzes” will be held across the city.

“Each year, Wyndham City spends about $2 million and countless hours collecting dumped rubbish and litter, including furniture, mattresses, household waste and building materials,” Cr Maynard said.

“Litter Blitzes will be held twice a month targeting hotspots and selected locations based on intelligence and reports from residents.”

Council says they’re committed to delivering key services and programs that residents need.

“This proposed Draft Budget includes grants funding of $1.45 million – a new record,” Cr Maynard said.

“The extra funding puts more money in the hands of community groups and organisations to run programs and events that make a difference locally.”

Maternal and child health could receive $14.7 million in funding and Kindergarten and Children Centre Services have been allocated $18.7 million.

The draft also includes support for libraries, a regional football facility in Tarneit and grants to develop a coastal and marine plan.

Cr Maynard said the proposed budget will prepare the municipality for the future.

“We’ve listened to our residents and come up with a Draft Budget that includes the important items they requested,” he said.
