Werribee’s new $45 million police complex has officially opened and will enable local officers to better serve residents in the municipality.
Chief commissioner Shane Patton and police minister Lisa Neville attended the formalities which included a smoking ceremony hosted by Bunurong Elder uncle Shane Clark, presentation of the flags, blessing of the station and an unveiling of the plaque.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas said the complex provides officers with the modern facilities needed to keep the community safe.
“Local police have always been outstanding members of police, they’re here without question and often at the most complex and difficult times,” he said.
“Police have been there every step of the way.”
The previous station was built in the later 1980s and has since outgrown Wyndham’s booming population.
The new facility is the only 24-hour complex in Wyndham and can accommodate up to 500 staff from several specialist areas including uniform officers, crime investigation unit, westgate divisional response unit and the crime scene unit.
It includes a custody and control centre, interview rooms, a dedicated area for the Justice of the Peace, a public meeting room, conference facilities, Crime Scene Unit labs, a dedicated
operations room, and a vehicle examination bay.
The police station will provide services for community members living in Williams Landing, Truganina, Tarneit, Wyndham Vale, Manor Lakes, Werribee, Werribee South, Little River, Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook and Laverton North.
