Werribee’s knocked out

Werribee’s season came to an end on Saturday in Bowls Victoria weekend pennant division 1, section 1 competition.

Facing Melton in the semi finals, Werribee, which was the higher ranked team and hosted the final, won just one rink in the 82 (16)-73 (2) loss.

All four of the rinks were one sided with the biggest win of the day going to Werribee’s Mick O’Neil, whose rink won 27-9.

It wasn’t enough to counteract the other results though. Colin Thompson’s rink lost 22-12, Snowy Barker’s rink lost 27-19 and Robert Panton’s rink lost 24-15.

Melton lost the division final the next day to Yarraville-Footscray 2.

It wasn’t all bad news for the Bees, with their division 4 and division 5 sides both winning premierships.

The division 4, section 1, Werribee had a big win against Keilor 2, winning 89 (16)-66 (2) on Saturday to win through to the section final

Stephen Cohen’s rink won 23-18, George Cairns’ rink won 31-14 and Vincent Keogh’s rink won 18-16.

Judy Brown’s rink was the only losing rink, losing 18-17.

On Sunday, it was a much closer result with Werribee winning the section final , 78 (15)-74 (3) against Bacchus Marsh 2.

Cairns’ rink won 21-16 and Brown’s rink won 20-16. Keogh’s rink had a 20-20 draw, while Cohen’s rink lost 22-17.

The division 5, section 1, team beat Altona Sports 2 on Saturday to win through to the section final.

The Bees won 80 (16)-62 (2).

Gerallt Edwards, Alan Taylor and Paul Brooks were the winning skips for the Bees.

In the sectional final it was a battle of the Wyndham teams, with Werribee beating Hoppers 3, 85 (14)-74 (4).

The division 4 and 5 teams will be back in action this weekend, facing other sectional winners to help decide the overall division winners.
