The state government’s School Breakfast Clubs program has served students in Victoria more than 20 million meals.
The initiative was delivered in partnership with Foodbank Victoria to provide free and healthy food for students across 1,000 government schools.
“Every child deserves to have the best start to the day. With our School Breakfast Clubs Program delivering nearly 750,000 meals to students across Wyndham, we’re ensuring that our kids are energized and ready to learn in the classroom,” Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly said.
Support continued during the pandemic, with ‘grab and go’ meal options available for students to take home, and for families to collect from schools to keep kids fed at home.
“Kids just can’t learn well on an empty stomach – and this program has made such a difference in the lives of many thousands of students who need a bit of extra support to have a nutritious, delicious meal,” Education Minister James Merlino said.
As well as breakfasts, the program also supplies lunches, holiday food supplies for students in need and delivers cooking classes for families at over 100 school across the state.
Supply packs are also available for schools to order over school holiday periods for families in need.
