The Wyndham Art Prize, which features a $15,000 prize, is open for artists to enter.

The annual competition also offers a $5000 acquisitive Local Emerging Art Prize (LEAP) for an artist from Wyndham.

During 2021, more than 300 artworks were entered in the competition.

Eighty-four artists were selected as finalists, including 20 Wyndham residents.

Tarneit stylist, writer, creative director and artist Gideon Wilonja won the competition’s main prize last year, which was $12,000.

The finalists are shortlisted by Wyndham Art Gallery curators, Dr Megan Evans and Olivia Poloni.

The competition’s judging is done by independent curators and art professionals.

Wyndham’s creative city portfolio holder, councillor Marcel Mahfoud, said: “The Wyndham Art Prize is our gallery’s premier exhibition and is a wonderful opportunity for both new and upcoming artists as well as seasoned artists to exhibit their works.”

“This year’s judges, Maree Clarke, Haley Millar Baker and Andy Butler, will have a difficult time assessing the works.

“We have a really wonderful culturally and linguistically diverse community in Wyndham and we want to reflect that in the gallery programming.

“We encourage local artists in Wyndham to enter.”

The prize accepts artworks from any form, including sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, photography, installation, digital sound and video.

Entries for the 2022 Wyndham Art Prize will close on April 1.

Finalists will be announced on April 19.

An exhibition showcasing the shortlisted entries will be held from July 2 until August 7 at the Wyndham Art Gallery in Watton Street, Werribee.
