Young Wyndham boy Zayne Gatt will shave off his mullet to raise funds for a good cause.

Zayne, a 10-year-old living with autism, is hoping to raise $5000 for the World’s Greatest Shave.

The annual campaign supports the Leukaemia Foundation, to help families facing blood cancer and with research into the illness.

Zayne, who has so far raised $1085, said he decided to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave after seeing an advertisement on television for the campaign.

His fundraising name for the campaign is Team Hurricane Zayne, based on one of his gaming nicknames.

Zayne said he would like to encourage people to donate to the World’s Greatest Shave.

“I would love to let the community know that every dollar helps to make somebody’s life a bit easier and to be able to get the support that they and their families need through this time,” he said.

Zayne started growing his mullet just over two years ago, before Victoria’s first pandemic lockdown of 2020.

The youngster said he would miss his mullet after shaving it off.

“After I shave my mullet, I will grow it again,” he said.

“I might even shave it off again next year.”

Zayne said his family have not yet set a date for his mullet to be shaved off, but they are thinking of scheduling it for March 11 at Hotel 520 in Tarneit.

“The venue has offered to help raise some money and my hair will be shaved off on the dance floor,” he said.
