The state government has secured land to construct the future Point Cook Community Hospital upon.
Health minister Martin Foley, Altona MP Jill Hennessy and Western Metropolitan region MP Ingrid Stitt made the announcement on Tuesday, February 15.
They said that a parcel of land at 140 Dunnings Road, Point Cook, has been secured for the future multi-million-dollar hospital facility.
The state government is investing $675 million to deliver 10 community hospitals in major growth areas across Victoria.
The Point Cook site, be operated by Western Health, will be a small public hospital providing a range of integrated community health and specialist services including urgent care for minor injuries and illnesses, day surgery, paediatric services, dialysis and mental health services.
“It will take pressure off the nearby Werribee Mercy emergency department and provide better access to a range of everyday health services for people who are not critically unwell, close to home,” Ms Hennessy said.
The hospital will also link patients to specialists, community health providers and social support services.
Once complete, the 10 community hospitals will have the capacity to treat at least 114,000 more urgent care patients, 55,000 dialysis treatments and enable more than 100,000 additional allied health sessions each year.
The state government’s Community Hospital Program will create an estimated 1900 jobs during planning and construction and deliver more than 1000 healthcare jobs once completed.
The final designs for the Point Cook Community Hospital are expected to be released in late 2022, with construction due for completion in 2024.
Ms Stitt said: “This will give families in Wyndham peace of mind that help is just around the corner when something is not quite right or when a loved one gets sick.”
