It will be a special occasion when the Truganina Pony Club hosts its 65th reunion on Saturday, February 19.
President Ronnie Graham, who joined the club as a child along with his siblings in 1976, said its members “were like one family”.
Mr Graham said the club began in the paddocks opposite Clarendon St, West Footscray in 1956.
Known as the Braybrook Pony Club at the time, a couple of years later it moved to a paddock in Woods Road.
About 1959-60, the club moved south to another location on Woods Road, where it is still based today.
Mr Graham said when his family became part of club it had an “absolutely massive” waiting list with more than 100 families wanting to join.
“Everyone, in the 1970s and 1980s, loved the annual Hanging Rock camp, it was a big highlight,” he said.
Nowadays, the club runs a Ready to Ride program for youngsters who are interested in horses but don’t own one, so they can learn about the basics of horse care and riding.
Mr Graham said that more than 110 people have expressed interested in attending the reunion.
“To celebrate the 65th anniversary, those special years, friendships and memories created, we want to bring everyone together, it more than likely could be the last time we all meet together at the Woods Road site,” he said.
The pony club is presently looking for new grounds, as the site has been sold to a developer.
The reunion will start at 2pm, with food, drinks and a barbecue.
