The Wyndham Basketball Association (WBA) has signed Maurice Howard to play in its championship men’s team for the 2022 season.
Howard, a Florida native, played four years of college basketball at Alcorn State University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
In his senior season, Howard led the team in scoring and was eighth in the conference.
By the time he concluded his senior season, Maurice had set the school record in three-pointers.
He also placed third in the conference for assists per game.
Howard, 24, stands at six foot one (1.84 metres tall).
WBA championship men’s head coach, Lucas Allen, said the combination of Howard’s “game along with his character” made signing him “a no-brainer for us”.
Allen said that Howard was had “all trademarks of the type of player we were looking for”.
“When I met with Maurice, I had an instant comfortability with him as a person,” he said.
Howard said he was elated to be joining the Wyndham Basketball Association.
As well, Howard said he decided to sign with the WBA because “they were so transparent with me and they gave me my first opportunity to become a pro basketball player”.
Howard added that that was excited about travelling to Australia and getting to work with the WBA.
Maurice is set to arrive in Australia later this month (February).
In addition to his playing role, Howard – along with the other WBA’s other imports – will help with coaching in various programs and camps.
“I’m looking forwards to meeting my team mates and coaching staff, building chemistry and turning this thing into a championship program,” he said.
