Wyndham council has opened an innovation hub named SPARK within the East Werribee Employment Precinct.
The hub, located at 600 Sneydes Road, aims to create a site where member businesses can be part of a collaborative space that supports and mentors digital and tech start-ups and entrepreneurs, to scale up their concepts and products to a commercial level.
Wyndham’s future-focused economy portfolio holder, councillor Mia Shaw, said it was exciting to see the innovation hub launched.
“Significant work has been undertaken over the last six months to create an environment that fosters entrepreneurship and collaboration,” Cr Shaw said.
The hub has 25 ergonomic workstations, meeting rooms, function spaces and a courtyard barbecue area.
“We’re committed to fostering a robust local economy and creating local and regional employment opportunities,” Cr Shaw said.
“That’s why the innovation hub, a key objective in Wyndham City’s Smart City Strategy, is such an important initiative.”
An expression of interest (EOI) for businesses interested in becoming SPARK members is now open.
Businesses who become members will be given access to business training and mentoring opportunities, relevant state and federal government services, industry organisations and a dedicated council officer to provide support and advice.
“I would encourage businesses who fit the relevant profile to submit an EOI to become part of this exciting opportunity,” Cr Shaw said.
Cr Shaw has called on the community to spread the word about SPARK and reach out to any businesses and entrepreneurs they may know.
Successful applicants will be offered a 12-month member’s tenancy period, with the option of a further 12-month period at the discretion of the council.
The EOI period will close at 11.59pm on Sunday, February 13.
