Mossfiel Primary School has celebrated its 50th anniversary with games, history lessons for pupils and the creation of a time capsule.
Mossfiel, which was the first school established in Hoppers Crossing in 1970, was unable to hold any anniversary events last year due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.
But last week, pupils and staff were finally able to mark the anniversary.
Principal Paul Maisey said that on Thursday, pupils came to school dressed in clothes from the 1970s or as if they were 50 years old.
“We saw some fantastic and very imaginative costumes from both staff and students,” he said.
During the week, the pupils also participated in games from the seventies and learned about the history of the Hoppers Crossing and Wyndham areas.
As well, the youngsters wrote letters which were placed in a time capsule to be opened in two decades.
On Friday, the school conducted a special assembly where the pupils from the student representative council (SRC) interviewed past staff and pupils including former principal Maureen Price, followed by the burying of the time capsule.
The day concluded with a school fete.
According to the Wyndham History website, when Mossfiel Primary School opened in 1970, more than 200 pupils were enrolled.
