Recycle, donate, help the planet

Wyndham council and the Red Cross hosted a Pop Up Recycling & Donation Day in Werribee recently.

The weekend event saw community members drop off any unwanted household items for donation and recycling, including clothing, books, DVDs, CDs, homewares and accessories.

The council has encouraged residents to recycle and donate unwanted household items, rather than disposing of them illegally.

The council receives an average 150 requests a week relating to illegal dumping.

Residents can dispose of hard waste at the Werribee Refuse Disposal Facility from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and from 8.30am to 4pm on Saturday.

People caught dumping rubbish can face fines of between $330 and $8000.

The council also offers most Wyndham households three free hard and green waste collection services each financial year.

To book a hard waste collection, and for information about other waste and recycling services the council offers, see details: www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/services/about-waste-and-recycling

To report illegal rubbish dumping call the council on 1300 023 411.
