Werribee Lions Club volunteers will be selling traditional Lions Christmas cakes and puddings from this Saturday onwards, to fund charitable and community works.
Doug Mullett will be among the Lions members selling the tasty festive desserts on weekends, at locations including Pacific Werribee (near the Target entrance) and at Bunnings stores in Hoppers Crossing and Werribee.
The cakes and puddings will also be sold at Manor Lakes Shopping Centre and by staff at the Bunnings Tarneit café.
Mr Mullett said funds raised through previous sales had gone to causes such as providing Hart Walkers for children, a trampoline and playground for special schools, barcode readers for blind people and St John Ambulance equipment.
Mr Mullett said that with the COVID-19 pandemic causing most of the Lions’ regular fundraising activities to be cancelled across the past two years, selling the cakes and puddings was more important than ever.
He said the need for assistance in the community “has never been greater”.
“Even if you don’t buy anything, say hello to our volunteers,” he said.
“And let the places we sell at know that they are public-spirited by providing space and facilities free, so the profits all go to worthy causes – for which we are grateful.”
As well, Mr Mullett admitted that he is biased, but he said the Lions cakes and puddings are “delicious, as all our repeat customers testify”.
Prices are $15 for 1.5 kilogram cakes, $13 for 1 kilogram cakes and 900 gram puddings and $2 for a 40 gram slice.
