Point Cook Football Club has announced Dave Rouvray as its new senior women’s coach for the 2022 Season.
Rouvray has previously held several other roles at Point Cook including junior coach, Superules player and coach, treasurer and general committee member.
His sons also play football, with eldest boy Max moving into Point Cook’s senior men’s ranks for next year.
To prepare for the upcoming season, Rouvray will be working with other members of the club, including past president and director of women’s football Ivo Havard.
Rouvray said it was “a great privilege” to be appointed to lead the senior women’s team and support the club’s talented female junior players in their transition to senior football.
“We have an extremely strong junior football program and our women’s team is critical stage of our female football pathway,” he said.
“The club and I are focused on ensuring our women’s football program provides a great club experience for all existing and new members, this focus not only covers on our field performance and the thrill of success but also the social and community connection aspects of club life that make sporting clubs so important to our community.”
The team’s pre-season training is held on Wednesdays from 7-8pm at Saltwater Reserve.
“We are looking to build our team connection, fitness, skills and commence the development of our game plan in this training block prior to the Christmas break,” Rouvray said.
“Importantly it’s all about having some fun and enjoying the great experiences that come from being involved in a sporting club.”
He said that everyone at Point Cook “is very excited about getting back together in person following a tough couple of seasons in 2020 and 2021 and looking forward to an uninterrupted season in 2022”.
As well, Rouvray said that he is very passionate about the club and that football was a big part of his life.
“Coaching is particularly is especially rewarding as it gives you a unique opportunity to build connection with people and bring individuals together to achieve collective success,” he said.
“Seeing the improvement and the building of connection between the group is one of the most rewarding aspects of coaching.”
Rouvray said he would urge anyone looking to either participate in football or get involved in a local community club, through volunteering or sponsorship, to get in contact with Point Cook.
“We welcome new members and have many opportunities for people from all backgrounds and abilities to get involved and to enjoy the great benefits of being a member of a community sporting club,” he said.
