Sreya, Sebastian, Matilda and Ryan were among the pupils at Heathdale Christian College in Werribee who celebrated Book Week by dressing up as their favourite literary characters on Friday.

During Book Week, which the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s started in the 1940s, schools and libraries pay tribute to books and Australian authors and illustrators.

This year’s Book Week was scheduled for August 20 to 26, when many children across Victoria were learning from home due to the state government’s COVID-19 lockdown, which meant traditional school activities such as costume parades had to postponed or cancelled.

However, several Wyndham schools – including Heathdale Christian College – held special Book Week events after students officially returned to the classroom last week.
