Werribee Cup returns

The Werribee Cup is set to be held later this year with members of the public welcome to attend, if the state’s vaccination targets are met in time.

The Werribee Cup on December 5 will be a family event with race day packages, live entertainment, Fashions on the Field and more.

The Cup will be held with COVID-Safe conditions in place, which are still being planned in the lead-up to the day.

Racing Victoria last week announced two race meetings would take place as part of the state-wide vaccinated economy trials.

On Thursday, October 14, a racing event was held in Warrnambool with up to 300 fully-vaccinated spectators allowed to attend.

In addition, the Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday, November 2 at Flemington will be permitted to admit up to 10,000 fully-vaccinated spectators.

Racing Victoria, in consultation with Country Racing Victoria (CRV), has confirmed that spectators will be permitted to return to Victorian race meetings from Thursday, November 4 if the state reaches its target of 80 per cent of the population aged 16 and older being fully vaccinated.

If the target is reached earlier, the date will not change.

On December 5 at the Werribee Cup, the gates will open to the public at 11.30am.

Attendees must wear smart casual, excluding members’ only areas and corporate areas.

Tickets: adults $20 online or $25 at the gate, concession $20 at the gate (for pension card and health care card holders).

Children aged 17 and under will be admitted free-of-charge if they are accompanied by an adult.
