Wyndham man among COVID death tally

A Wyndham man aged in his seventies is among the 13 people who have died from the coronavirus in Victoria, across the past 48 hours.

The man died yesterday, along with a man in his fifties from Melbourne, male in his fifties from Brimbank, a man in his seventies from Maribyrnong and a woman in her eighties from Yarra.

Health Minister Martin Foley announced eight new deaths today, including a man in his forties from Port Phillip and a man in his eighties from Maribyrnong.

A total of 160 new COVID cases were diagnosed in Wyndham residents yesterday, along with 160 new cases in Whittlesea, 164 in Casey (in Melbourne’s south-east) and 188 cases in Hume.

There are now 1612 COVID-19 cases in the state, including 133 people in hospital and 94 patients on ventilators.

Almost 500 of these cases were diagnosed among residents of the northern suburbs and 427 cases in residents of the west.

Also at today’s press conference, Mr Foley announced that the COVID-19 vaccine rollout has been expanded as state-run centres, with mRNA vaccines Pfizer and Moderna now available to all Victorians – including people aged 60 and above.

“It’s time to throw open the doors across the state to mRNA vaccines,” Mr Foley said.

“With all vaccines open to all Victorians aged 12 and over, and plenty of appointments available, there’s no reason not to book your jab today.”

Mr Foley said the state government was planning to launch a new campaign encouraging residents to get vaccinated in order “to get back to doing the things that you love”.

Book a COVID-19 vaccination through your local GP or community pharmacy, community health service or state vaccination centre. To find a GP or pharmacy provider and make a booking, visit www.health.gov.au.
