Felix’s big break

Point Cook teenager Felix ‘Checko’ Pacheco has been named as a finalist in a national music competition for up-and-coming recording artists.

Felix, 17, and four other performers have been selected as finalists by The Veronicas for the Samsung Electronics Australia UNDSCVRD competition.

The TikTok docu-style reality series aimed to spotlight rising music talent in Australia.

UNDSCVRD documents the journey of the finalists as they collaborate with The Veronicas and music producer James Angus, to produce their own original single and accompanying music video.

A four-week video series will air on the @undscvrd_artist TikTok channel, with the first episode scheduled for this month.

Felix, who is in Year 11, said he developed a love of music in Year 7.

He is mainly a hip-hop and rap artist, but said he is keen to move into other genres.

Felix said being named a finalist in the UNDSCVRD competition “was like a dream come true”.

In addition to rapping and composing, Felix said he is studying audio engineering at school and works as an audio engineer for other musicians.

“For me, I love the way sounds go together, I can listen to a track and name all the sounds and instruments that go into it,” he said.

Felix said that recording the videos and song for the competition was his first time in a recording studio.

“Working with James Angus in the studio has been an amazing experience, I have recorded all my songs in my bedroom so it was an amazing opportunity,” he said.

Felix said that he also wanted to produce other artists’ music in the future.
