Arrest after police pursuit to Mount Cottrell

A Tarneit man has been arrested after the Police Air Wing pursued him driving an allegedly stolen car across the western suburbs yesterday.

Police were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee on Railway Avenue, Laverton just before 8am.

The Jeep allegedly collided with a Mitsubishi Lancer before fleeing the scene.

A 10-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Mitsubishi Lancer, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

With assistance from the Police Air Wing, officers on the ground followed the Jeep towards Kings Park where they attempted to intercept the driver, however he allegedly failed to stop and continued.

The Air Wing continued to follow the vehicle across various suburbs before officers successfully deployed stop sticks on Greigs Road in Mount Cottrell.

Police followed the car for a short distance before the vehicle came to a stop on Mount Cottrell Road.

A 27-year-old Tarneit man was arrested. He has been charged with reckless conduct endangering life, theft of motor vehicle, fail to stop at collision, fail to exchange details, fail to stop on police request and drive manner dangerous.

Investigators have since established the vehicle the man was driving during the pursuit had allegedly been stolen in Moe on July 2.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
