Intersections to be signalised

Wyndham council will install traffic lights at three intersections under a $2.4 million project.

Construction is scheduled to commence next month at the Greens Road and Haines Drive intersection in Wyndham Vale; the Dunnings Road and Lennon Boulevard intersection; and the Miles Franklin Boulevard and Boardwalk Boulevard intersection in Point Cook.

Wyndham’s city design portfolio holder, Cr Josh Gilligan, said the intersection upgrades would boost safety and traffic movement across the three sites.

“Improving the safety of our local roads is one of the most important issues facing our community,” Cr Gilligan said.

“These works are being carried out to enhance the safety for all road users at these busy intersections, especially schoolchildren crossing the road to get to one of the nearby schools.”

Cr Gilligan said traffic lights would also reduce traffic congestion during peak times at each intersection, allowing drivers and pedestrians to reach their destinations sooner.

“This Wyndham city project forms part of a $27.2 million spend to upgrade and build new local roads over 2021/22,” he said.

The three intersection upgrades are scheduled to be completed in mid-2022.

In addition, coaches will replace some evening trains on the Geelong line from Sunday, September 5 to Tuesday, September 7 from 8.20pm onwards each night, due to maintenance works.

All train services will be replaced by a mix of express coaches and coaches which will stop at all stations.

Public Transport Victoria has urged commuters to plan ahead and allow an additional 45 minutes for travel.
