Police detected 114 traffic offences in Wyndham across the recent Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
A total of 4780 traffic offences and 431 criminal offences were recorded across the state as part of the four-day operation, named Operation Regal.
Within Wyndham, police issued 50 speeding tickets and 16 tickets for unregistered vehicles.
Officers also detected 10 seatbelt offences, seven disqualified drivers and seven motorists who disobeyed road signs and signals.
Six unlicensed drivers, five drink drivers and two drug drivers were also detected.
Wyndham police recorded motorists committing five mobile phone offences and impounded six vehicles.
Road Policing Assistant Commissioner Libby Murphy said that one person died over the Queen’s Birthday weekend, a 56-year-old male passenger who passed away as a result of a fatal collision with a vehicle attempting to overtake in Moorooduc.
“While this is the lowest number of fatalities seen over a Queen’s Birthday weekend since 2017, one life lost on our roads is still too many,” she said.
“Whether speed, distraction, disobeying road rules, not wearing a seatbelt, fatigue or impairment from alcohol or drugs is at play, road trauma can be avoided”
“We cannot be complacent when driving.
“Everyone must take responsibility for their actions on our roads.
“Police will continue to be highly visible and enforcing on Victorian roads over the coming weeks as restrictions ease and the July Victorian school holiday period commences.”
