Park upgrades hit milestone

Works being carried by Wyndham council out to improve two Wyndham Vale parks have reached key milestones, with one upgrade complete and the second due to wrap up soon.

A $450,000 upgrade of Munro Drive Park has been finished and is open to the public.

The park features new play equipment, a nature-based play area, new seating and upgraded concrete pathways.

Meanwhile, the first stage of the Oaktree Avenue Park upgrade has also been completed, with a new tennis court open for residents to enjoy.

The tennis court is part of a $484,000 upgrade of the park, which will also include an upgraded playground featuring new equipment and nature play.

Redeveloped picnic areas with barbecues, upgraded pathways, furniture and landscaping will also be part of the upgrade.

Work on the second stage of construction at Oaktree Avenue Park is expected to start in the middle of the year.

Wyndham’s active city portfolio holder, Cr Peter Maynard, said the two park upgrades formed part of the council’s strategy to address ageing infrastructure within several Wyndham reserves, as detailed in its Play Space Strategy and Open Space Strategy.

“The more we move to an online world, the more important it is that there are open spaces close to home for Wyndham families to get out of the house, enjoy nature and be active,” Cr Maynard said.

“These substantial upgrades provide better opportunities for Wyndham Vale families to play, exercise, and perfect their serves.”

The council has also proposed spending $33 million on parks, open spaces and streetscapes as part of its 2021-22 budget.
