Wyndham council has released a draft plan to develop a sports precinct and open space at Alfred Road Reserve in Werribee, with an estimated construction cost of $22- $25 million.
The draft plan for the reserve will be open for public feedback until May 28.
The plan proposes building six netball courts, two soccer fields, two cricket ovals, a shared cricket and football oval and nine cricket practice nets at the site, which is approximately 21 hectares in size.
There are also plans for a sporting pavilion to be shared by cricket, netball and football teams, a 1.5 kilometre circuit path with fitness stations, a play and picnic area and 20 parking spaces.
The council also hopes to build an indoor cricket facility, subject to external funding of tp to $1.5 million from Sport and Recreation Victoria, and a sporting pavilion to be shared by cricket and soccer clubs.
A council report said the council would seek grants from the state government and contributions from tenant sports clubs to help pay for the development.
Wyndham’s active city portfolio holder, Cr Peter Maynard, said the Alfred Road Reserve would cater for new residents in the Riverwalk estate and Werribee west, and those in established parts of Werribee.
“This exciting plan will offer cricket, netball, soccer and football facilities all at one site,” Cr Maynard said.
“In particular, it will provide a new home for the Werribee Cricket Club and Werribee Junior Cricket Club, giving both teams the space to expand their existing membership base.
“It will also host junior and senior levels of competition and training for other sporting associations, clubs, schools and the wider community.”
