Wyndham Vale man arrested after truck injures five

A Wyndham Vale man has been arrested after five pedestrians were left injured on the side of the road when a truck crashed into a traffic light in Southbank yesterday evening.

Investigators have been told the B-double tanker was travelling on City Road when it cut the corner while attempting a left-hand turn into Power Street and mounted the footpath, taking out a traffic light which fell to the ground.

Five pedestrians standing near the corner, four men and a woman all aged in their twenties and thirties, were injured.

All five pedestrians were taken to hospital. Two men are described has having critical injuries.

The driver of the truck did not stop at the scene.

A motorist, who saw the incident unfold, followed the truck and provided information to police.

A 64-year-old man from Wyndham Vale has been arrested and is assisting detectives with their inquiries.

The truck has been located in Truganina.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage to come forward.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are at the scene of the crash.
