Work is underway to install 130 marked parking spaces for Werribee train commuters.
The new car parking area, to be fitted with CCTV cameras and lighting, will be located to the south of the rail line with commuters able to enter and exit via Kelly Street and Griffith Street.
The parks are being installed as part of the state government’s Car Parks for Commuters program, following the removal of the level crossings at Cherry Street and Werribee Street.
A road bridge connecting Princes Highway and Tarneit Road has been built as part of the Cherry Street level crossing removal project.
Project director Director Tony Hedley said that permanent lighting was being installed on the new road bridge,
“It will be complete by mid-year at the latest, but we’re working to have the new lights switched on sooner if we can,” he said.
Construction crews have also installed concrete beams for a new 1.2 kilometre road bridge, which is being built as part of the Old Geelong Road level crossing removal project.
Staircases and lift shafts have been installed for a new pedestrian overpass, as well.
The Old Geelong Road level crossing removal project is due for completion in 2022.
