Police detected 205 traffic offences in Wyndham during a five-day operation aimed at reducing road trauma across the Easter long weekend.
Across the municipality, police caught 78 speeding drivers, 25 motorists in unregistered vehicles and 24 seatbelt offences during Operation Nexus.
Officers impounded 17 vehicles and identified 14 unlicensed drivers, 12 disqualified drivers, 10 drivers under the influence of alcohol and eight drivers under the influence of drugs.
Eleven motorists were spotted disobeying signs or signals, three motorists were found to be committing mobile phone offences and three cycling offences were also recorded.
Within Victoria, police detected more than 9000 traffic offences during Operation Nexus, which ran between April 1 and 5.
Those caught out by police included a 15-year-old Hoppers Crossing boy, who allegedly returned a blood alcohol concentration of .104 after being pulled over in Altona.
In a separate incident, police impounded a car in Hoppers Crossing, after finding four children aged between two and 12 years old in the backseat.
Road Policing Command Acting Assistant Commissioner John Fitzpatrick said that road trauma could be avoided if drivers obeyed the law, paid attention to their surroundings and did not drive while fatigued, intoxicated or under the influence.
“The behaviour of some people, who think they can get away with doing the wrong thing all the while risking the lives of others, can only be described as idiotic and selfish,” he said.
