Teens charged following gym thefts

Nine teenagers have been charged following a series of burglaries and car thefts at gyms across Wyndham.

Police allege that car keys were stolen from gym locker areas before cars were stolen from nearby carparks in five separate incidents.

The alleged incidents took place at Point Cook, Tarneit, Manor Lakes and Williams Landing between January 25 and March 23, police said.

The teenagers were arrested after police were called to a gym on Derrimut Road, Tarneit following reports a group of males were acting suspiciously in the locker area about 1.35am last Wednesday.

The teenagers have all been charged with burglary and theft-related offences.

A 12-year-old Tarneit boy, a 14-year-old Point Cook boy, a 14-year-old Manor Lakes boy, a 15-year-old Wyndham Vale boy, a 15-year-old Meadow Heights boy and a 17-year-old Tarneit boy were arrested and bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

A 15-year-old Truganina girl and a 15-year-old Tarneit boy were remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives are continuing to investigate the alleged incidents.
