A new playground and walking path have been constructed at Golden Square Park in Hoppers Crossing, thanks to a $666,000 upgrade.
The park’s facelift has been jointly funded with $341,000 from Wyndham council and a $325,000 grant from the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
The upgraded park also features a new nature play area, a half-court basketball court with basketball and netball hoops, picnic facilities with seats and shelter and landscaping.
Wyndham’s active city portfolio holder, Cr Peter Maynard, said the upgrade would provide Hoppers Crossing residents with a great place to walk and exercise.
“I’d like to thank the government for their generous contribution and also thank the residents who took the time to tell us what improvements they wanted to see at the park during our community consultation phase,” Cr Maynard said.
“We know how important it is for our residents to have access to open space, close to home.
“The Golden Square Park upgrade has created a space that the whole family can enjoy.”
Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly and western metropolitan region MP Kaushaliya Vaghela attended the official opening of the new-look park earlier this month.
“I look forward to seeing the Golden Square Reserve become a much-loved part of Hoppers Crossing – a place for everyone in our community to come and enjoy thanks to the Growing Suburbs Fund,” Ms Connolly said.
Since 2015, Wyndham council has received more than $27.5 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund to support the delivery of 20 projects.
“It’s great to see the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund delivering projects like the Golden Square Reserve, providing vital facilities for our growing communities in Wyndham,” Ms Vaghela said.
