A new state-of-the-art Wyndham Street Surfer Bus will take to local streets to engage with youth.

The new bus is fitted with WiFi, music and DJ equipment, gaming consoles, art equipment and five LCD screens.

An outdoor LCD screen can be used for gaming and movies, Apple iMac and PC computers.

The bus also has sports equipment including a mobile basketball ring and soccer goals.

Young people will be able to connect with members of Wyndham council’s Youth Services team on the bus, and access counselling, legal assistance, a foodbank, employment advice and alternative education programs.

The bus will be on the road between four to six days and nights a week.

The bus project has received $1 million in funding from the state government and $568,000 funding from Wyndham council.

Council will also cover the annual costs associated with the ongoing running of the bus.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas officially launched the Wyndham Street Surfer Bus last week.

“I am sure the bus will become a much-loved part of young people’s lives across our community and can’t wait to see the impact it will have,” Mr Pallas said.

Wyndham mayor Adele Hegedich said the new Street Surfer Bus would start visiting local schools, later in the year.

“Wyndham City has a higher than average youth population and is it vital that we engage Wyndham’s young people and provide a place where they feel safe, well supported and connected to their community,” Cr Hegedich said.
