Find your inner artist

Werribee’s first “paint and sip experience” has been launched in Watton Street.

Social Artist co-owner Chris Black said the idea behind the business was for people to bring along their own food and drinks to enjoy while creating a painting under the guidance of an artist.

Mr Black said he and a group of five friends, who have all grown up in Werribee, decided to launch the “paint and sip” venture after they noticed the concept growing in popularity in other parts of Australia.

“It suits people who have never picked up a brush to professional artists,” he said.

“It’s a social and friendly thing, we don’t want to deter people who can’t paint.

“Especially coming out of the pandemic, it’s good for people to come together, socialise and have fun.”

Social Artist will be able to seat 35 customers once pandemic restrictions are fully lifted.

Mr Black said Social Artist aimed to be socially-conscious and sustainable, using easels made out of recycled timber.

It also supplies patrons with aprons to wear while painting, which have been made out of material supplied by the Werribee-based Boomerang Bags, a volunteer-run group that works to reduce the use of plastic bags by encouraging the community to use recycled fabric to make bags and other items.

A paint and sip session at Social Artist costs $59, with painting materials supplied. Details: www.socialartist.com.au.
