Wyndham council has announced more than $27,000 to help support local artists under its Creative Industries Micro-Grant program.

The micro-grant program, targeted towards creative industry business development, was launched by the council in September.

Residents and organisations applying for the grants could apply for funding of up to $2500 to support the creation of new work within the community, or funding of up to $1800 to help either move their businesses online or give their existing brand a revamp to meet growth in digital demand.

The council has this month named the successful grant applicants as Fatima Measham, Gideon Wilonja, Maisy Sutcliffe, Arts Assist, Suyee Hughes, Nandita Nadkarni, Angela Hickey, Jessica Rule, Catherine Liddle, Xiang Li, Eva Klusaceka, Melissa Lazaridis, Emily Kiefel and Steph Payne.

Wyndham city design and livability director Ludo Campbell-Reid said the arts and creative industries “were one of the first sectors to be impacted by COVID-19 and will continue to be impacted”.

“Wyndham’s creative sector has many strengths and both established and emerging professionals reside and work here,” he said.

“Supporting the sector at this stage of impact is important to continuing to have a vibrant and creative city.”

Wyndham Vale-based writer Fatima Measham said the grant would support her creative development.

“This grant gives me room to explore a creative idea close to my heart, via new and exciting pathways.” Measham said.

“I look forward to seeing where I will end up and hope to bring the community with me.”
