It’s all systems go – inside and outdoors – at Shadowfax now that the pandemic restrictions are easing. And head chef Ben Darcy is excited to be working on his new summer menu that will major on the best of local seasonal ingredients.

Always inspired by the diversity of the Mediterranean region, Ben’s menus feature an ever-changing seasonal selection of seafood, meats, and vegies.

“We use fresh produce from our own kitchen garden, as well as from the neighbouring market gardens and farm gates,” Ben says.

“With fertile soils and the perfect growing conditions, we’re in one of the best places to grow vegetables, and you’ll find the finest cauliflower, lettuce, fennel and broccoli coming from the growers that surround the winery and restaurant.”

Handmade pastas, wood-fired pizzas, sweet treats such as Ben’s famous tiramisu with coffee anglaise, plus a selection of Australia’s finest cheese are all represented.

Top tipples

Current Shadowfax wine releases, as well as a curated selection of museum wines and magnums not available anywhere else, partner with a concise list of tipples from the best local breweries and distilleries.

New wine releases

With the weather warming up, the popular 2020 minnow rose will be launched soon – at Cellar Door and in the restaurant. And look out for the brand new, never-been-seen-before 2019 Minnow Carignan.

These follow the recent releases of the 2019 highly regarded single vineyard wines from the Macedon Ranges (Little Hampton pinot noir, Straws Lane pinot noir and Midhill chardonnay) as well as Werribee’s very own K Road shiraz.

Picnic boxes

With Werribee Park in full spring bloom, Shadowfax is offering a picnic box brimming with seasonal delights. There’s fresh baked bread, an antipasto selection and Australian cheeses, terrine, salads and tiramisu, served with homemade lemon iced tea.

A mini-size picnic box for little ones, filled with a selection of kid-friendly snacks, is also available. The Picnic Boxes are available Friday-Sunday.
