Sports centres re-open

Both AquaPulse and Eagle Stadium reopened today with a focus on the health and safety of staff and patrons.

The popular Wyndham council facilities, which are managed by Western Leisure Services (WLS), will initially operate under a bookings-only system, to ensure capacity limits are maintained and to promote cashless transactions.

WLS chief executive Alison Dixon said significant planning and effort has gone into preparing for a safe and successful public relaunch of the two WynActive facilities.

A dedicated Safety Attendant Team will be in place at each centre.

“We’ve adopted new controls and strengthened existing ones that play a part in our overall response to ensuring a COVID-safe environment,” Ms Dixon said.

“Our Safety Attendant Teams, who are essentially our Covid marshalls, will focus on meeting and, in many cases, exceeding requirements to welcome patrons back and ensure the best possible customer experience.”

The teams will be responsible for the maintenance of facility hygiene, infection control and presentation.

The centres have also implemented a strict facility cleaning regime, including special attention for sports equipment and high-touch surfaces.

Physical screens between exercise equipment and between frontline staff and patrons have been installed, along with floor/distance markers and waiting areas, electronic signage highlighting government advice.

In addition, WynActive has introduced a range of administrative and procedural changes, such as a Covid incident response and notification procedure in the event of a suspected or confirmed case, a check-in process to ensure robust contact tracing and employee health monitoring.

“Training in infection control, effective cleaning and adherence to current regulations has been embraced by our staff, who are very much looking forward to welcoming all patrons back into our facilities,” said Ms Dixon.

“The local community should be congratulated for the effort that has been made to stay isolated.

“It is this effort that has enabled us to move towards COVID-normal and to re-engage with each other and our facilities.”

Out of the 10,100 Covid tests carried out in Wyndham between October 26 and Sunday, November 8, none recorded a positive case of the virus.

As of today (November 9), there were no active coronavirus cases in Wyndham.
