New home for skaters

A new skate park has been constructed at Loyola Reserve in Werribee, as part of a $345,000 upgrade.

The Wyndham council project, which is now open to the public, includes beginner and intermediate ramps, concreted areas, landscaping, seats and a new water fountain.

Council’s city life director, Allison Kenwood, said the new facilities would cater for skaters and scooter riders with beginner to intermediate skill levels.

“This new skate park complements the multi-purpose court, playground and BBQ facilities already at Loyola Reserve, offering a place for skaters and scooter riders to develop their skills,” Ms Kenwood said.

She said the new skate park came about as a result of advocacy by local children and teenagers, who wanted an easily accessible skate park in the Werribee area.

“Now more than ever, it is important that Wyndham families have access to great open spaces close to home – and Loyola Reserve and the new skate park delivers just that,” Ms Kenwood said.

“I encourage families to come to Loyola Reserve and make the most of the new skate park, barbecue and other facilities, while observing current COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing.”

The project was supported by a $100,000 Sport and Recreation Victoria grant.
