Motorists are being warned to watch out for lane closures and roadworks, as early construction works on the Old Geelong Road level crossing removal ramp up this month.
Works at the site were halted in August, in line with stage four pandemic restrictions.
However, the Level Crossing Removal Project last week announced that works were starting again, with strict health and safety protocols in place.
Intermittent lane closures and reduced speeds will be implemented in the project area, and workers will be positioned on the median strip between the Princes Highway and the Princes Freeway, to realign lanes with new temporary line-markings and relocate light poles
Work will take place in the rail corridor at night while trains are not running, to install underground services, excavate and pour concrete.
From November 5, the northern and southern car parks at Hoppers Crossing station will be closed until mid-2022 to make way for the new pedestrian overpass.
More than 400 temporary car parks will be available at a temporary car park on the opposite side of the Princes Highway to the station, off Hoppers Lane.
The temporary car park is a five to 10-minute walk from Hoppers Crossing Station. Vehicle access will be via Old Sneydes Road.
However, existing accessible car spaces at Hoppers Crossing Station will remain open.
In addition, the Princes Freeway city-bound off-ramp towards Princess Highway, in Hoppers Crossing, will remain closed until 2022. Vehicles will be able to detour via the Sneydes Road off-ramp or Hoppers Lane.
