High risk sites identified

Five sites in Wyndham have been named as “high risk” locations for exposure to coronavirus, as new figures reveal 92 residents of local aged care facilities have died from the illness.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) website includes a list of “high risk locations” across Victoria.

The department advises anyone who visited the sites within the listed timeframes, and has since displayed potential virus symptoms, to get tested immediately.

The five high-risk Wyndham locations are: the Werribee train line, between Footscray and Werribee stations, after a commuter with COVID-19 travelled between the stations on September 22 from 4-6pm; Shearwater Village Park, at Tundra Esplanade in Werribee, after a person with the virus visited the park between 4.30-5.30pm on September 20; Coles Tarneit West on September 20 from noon-1pm; Woolworths Hoppers Crossing on September 19; Pacific Werribee shopping centre on September 19, from 10am-noon.

Locations are not classified as risky outside of the dates and times included on the DHHS website.

The DHHS also released new data relating to virus cases at aged care homes across the state.

According to the department, 97 residents of four Wyndham aged care homes have died from coronavirus since March.

This includes 30 residents of Baptcare Wyndham Lodge Community in Werribee, 14 residents of Mecwacare John Atchison Centre in Hoppers Crossing, 17 residents of the Glendale Aged Care Facility in Werribee and one resident from Mercy Place Wyndham Aged Care Facility in Werribee.

A total of 260 cases have been linked to the Baptcare facility since March, including 131 staff and 101 residents.

A total of 108 cases have been linked to Glendale, 96 to the Mecwacare facility and eight to Mercy Place.
