Wyndham resident Amandeep Kaur says writing poetry helps her feel closely connected to nature and life.
Ms Kaur, who is also known by the pen name A.K. Rilke, started writing poetry in 2015.
Since then, the Facebook page where she posts a lot of her work has amassed more than 75,000 followers.
“I always thought about writing books someday and I remember I was really inspired by some of the writers like Emily Dickinson,” Ms Kaur said.
“I started dreaming to someday write like them and started practicing the craft every day after that and it took off from there.
“I believe writing poetry is a way to connect with my own self and it helps me to know myself and the world around me in a better way.”
Ms Kaur said the greatest challenge of writing poetry was “to find and write about the subjects that stir your heart and soul”.
“Also, in any type of writing… I believe writing your authentic self and trying to find out the intention or vibe of your projects is challenging,” she said.
Ms Kaur said she enjoyed receiving feedback on her work, through social media.
“How people from around the world relate to subjects I write on was a bit of surprise, as I learnt we all are same in many ways and I learnt it all through the feedback,” she said.
Ms Kaur said she has also been working on a book, which will likely be published next year.
