Raffle winner revealed

A charity raffle has raised more than $4000 for the Werribee Mercy Hospital’s 24-hour mental health crisis line.

Earlier this year, the Werribee Hospital Foundation launched an appeal to raise $30,000 to upgrade the ageing crisis line.

To help out, Werribee Business & Tourism Association (WBTA) member Kim Carter organised a raffle, with the first prize consisting of $1000 of vouchers and treats donated by local businesses Tonia T Boutique, Quest Werribee, Divine Scents Creations, Fifth Element Day Spa, The Park Werribee, Dymocks Werribee, Notorious Espresso, The Garden Feast, Tonia T Boutique, Shadowfax Winery, Sesto’s Shoes and Salon Vogue.

The WBTA, YPA and Tonia T Boutique sponsored the raffle, which was drawn last week.

Point Cook resident Dorothy Backman was announced as the winner.

Ms Backman is actually an employee of the hospital, and is about to retire from her role as receptionist in the Rehabilitation Outpatients department, which is part of the Continuing Care Centre.

Ms Backman said she would miss working at the hospital, where she has been employed for almost a decade.

“The staff and the people are just so caring and respectful,” she said.

“It is such a wonderful place.”

Werribee Hospital Foundation community engagement and fundraising manager, Lisa Field, said: “It is wonderful to meet people like Dorothy, who have such a positive story to share about the hospital”.

“And equally wonderfully, is to have supporters like Tonia from Tonia T Boutique and Kim Carter from Werribee Business & Tourism Association,” she said.

Ms Field said the Werribee Hospital Foundation would continue fundraising for the 24-hour mental health crisis line, see
