Tarneit brothers Elliott, Jackson and Issac are looking forward to catching up with friends and playing sport when they head back to school on June 6.
While Victorian students in prep, grade 1and grade 2, plus VCE and VCAL students, returned to schools on Tuesday, other year levels will head back into the classroom next month.
Eleven-year-old twins Jackson and Elliott are in grade 6, while 14-year-old Issac is in year 9.
The boys’ mother Lois Foster said socialising with other young people and forming friendships was important, and something her sons had missed during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
Ms Foster said that during home-schooling, the boys’ schools had arranged learning tasks through online educational management systems, Google and Zoom. She said the tasks had included sports videos and activities.
“There’s not been an overload of work, school have been very supportive with what can be done at home and what’s realistically achievable for each family,” she said.
“My grade 9 says he does more work at home than at school as there are no distractions.
“He’s been very comfortable learning on his own.
“Last week he received an award from his year level principal for his contribution to online learning, he was nominated by his teachers.
“It was a real confidence and motivational boost for him.”
