Two Wyndham schools are singing the praises of the State Schools Relief (SSR) organisation.
The not-for-profit organisation, with support from the state government, has been providing laptops, internet connectivity devices, chairs and desks to financially disadvantaged students studying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maree Scriha from Wyndham Central College said SSR had helped 350 students from the school this year.
“SSR has assisted Wyndham Central College in easing some of the financial strain on helping our students with their educational needs,” she said.
“SSR has been a much-appreciated tool in the success of our students.”
Jessica Cook, from the Well-being Hub administration team at Manor Lakes P-12 College, said that SSR has been “absolutely phenomenal”.
Ms Cook said she has applied for laptops for about 100 college students through the SSR.
“The majority of year 11 and 12 students are getting devices to keep, which is fantastic,” she said.
She said teachers and staff from the college have actually been loaning their own technical devices to some students, who have been learning from home without access to a laptop, iPad or tablet.
“Laptops may be a small thing for some people, but it’s life-changing to others,” Ms Cook said.
