Women’s Health West will share in a $3 million state government funding package.
The two-year package will provide funding to 12 women’s health services across the state.
Altona MP Jill Hennessy said the funding would help Women’s Health West continue its vital work delivering prevention of family violence training, advice and support to organisations in Wyndham, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Brimbank, Melton, Moonee Valley and Melbourne.
The state’s $3 million package comes in addition to $40.2 million announced for crisis accommodation and specialist services for people suffering or at risk of family violence.
“Coronavirus has created an unprecedented situation around the world, including here in Victoria – in these uncertain times prevention of family violence remains a critical priority for our government,” Ms Hennessy said.
Women’s Health West’s autumn newsletter stated the organisation was experiencing a rise in demand for family violence services.
“Most staff are working remotely, however, we are still providing a limited number of face-to-face services,” the newsletter stated.
“In times of crisis, the home can become even less safe for people experiencing family violence or abuse.
“This risk increases when there are other stressors including financial pressure, unemployment and isolation from support networks.”
