Children from the Guardian Childcare & Education Point Cook North are learning about nature and sustainability during the coronavirus pandemic.
The centre has provided youngsters with gardening packs, to take home and complete with their parents or guardians.
Families from the centre who are choosing to self-isolate have also been invited to come and pick up a pack.
The gardening packs include sustainable pots made of cardboard, soil, flower seeds, a poem and instructions.
Educational leader Casey Mildenhall said that due to the pandemic, team leaders from the centre came together and worked out ways to stay in touch with the community and families at home. This led to the idea for the garden packs.
“We’ve got a big focus on sustainability, here at the centre,” Miss Mildenhall said.
“We also really value creating community connections.”
Miss Mildenhall said children in the centre’s older-age classrooms helped to put the garden packs together, including seeds and succulents.
Shel said families would be encouraged to post photos of how the plants are growing on the centre’s online daily learning platform.
