Kittens Bunny, Miffy and Bilby had a tough start to life, after they were found dumped in a rubbish bin near a Williams Landing supermarket on the Easter weekend.
Luckily, the cute felines are now being cared for by Purrs of Point Cook Inc, a registered charity and cat rescue group.
Purrs rescuer Rebecca Roberts said the kittens were found by a Woolworths staff member when she threw some rubbish away.
“She saw something moving and investigated,” Ms Roberts said.
“There was two kittens near the top and when she moved a bag, she found another hiding underneath.
“They were covered in milk from the bottom of the bin and were all terrified.”
A a colleague referred the supermarket worker to Purrs of Point Cook, who came to the kittens’ rescue.
Ms Roberts said the kittens were “extremely timid” and not fond of being handled by humans when they were first rescued.
She said the kittens were now in “pretty good health” and were slowly being won over by their foster carer.
Ms Roberts said the kittens were not yet ready for adoption.
Ms Roberts said dumping the kittens in the bin was a cruel act.
.”I would like to say I’m surprised by this behaviour, but sadly I’m not – over the years I have seen some terrible acts of cruelty,” she said.
“These kittens deserve so much better than what they have been dealt.
“We will socialise, vet work and find them the very best of homes.”
Purrs of Point Cook will host a Facebook fundraising auction, to raise money for its cat and kitten rescue work, until 7pm on May 10. Bidders must be aged over 18.
