Three Wyndham schools will share in almost $450,000 of funding from the state government.
Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly recently announced Doherty’s Creek P-9 College in Truganina will receive $200,000 from the Inclusive Schools Fund.
Ms Connolly said that the funding will go towards the construction of an outdoor sensory area, a calming place where students with autism and sensory processing needs can explore and learn without feeling overwhelmed.
Architecture firm Architecture Architecture has been appointed to design the outdoor sensory area.
The architecture firm has also been appointed to design a $133,000 accessible playground, to be built at Alamanda K-9 College.
Point Cook MP Jill Hennessy announced the funding earlier this month.
“This is great news for Alamanda students, who will get the benefits of new inclusive spaces to cater for a wider range of options for teaching and learning,” she said.
“Disability doesn’t need to be a barrier to learning and achieving – these innovative projects are all about giving our primary schools the infrastructure they need to inspire a passion for learning in all students.”
Point Cook College will also receive $116,979.43 in funding to construct wheelchair access ramps and paths, to ensure students and staff have access to school facilities.
