Point Cook girl Devy, who captured hearts across the nation after singing at the Eurovision – Australia Decides concert earlier this year, has written a song reminding us all to stay safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The nine year-old performed alongside singer Kate Miller-Heidke during the Eurovision event on the Gold Coast, which was broadcast on SBS, in February.
Devy said that she penned “Stay Home – Coronavirus song” on the second day of a 21-day songwriting challenge which she has set for herself, during the pandemic lockdown.
“I do a lot of singing in my day because music is what makes me happy,” Devy said.
“I write songs often because it comes naturally to me and it’s my favourite activity to do.
“I play the piano and the guitar.”
Devy said her dream was to become a popular pop/rap singer-songwriter in the future.
“I hope a lot of people will know me because I could bring a smile to their faces and make their day with my music,” she said.
Devy has also won first prizes at FastTrack and Take the Mic, two of the largest singing competitions in Australia, and at last year’s annual Vocal Eisteddfods in Bendigo and Royal South Street.
Devy was given the opportunity to perform at Eurovision – Australia Decides after Ms Miller-Heidke noticed her in the audience at a Melbourne show.
She invited Devy on stage to sing, and Devy received a standing ovation from more than 2500 people at Hamer Hall.
