Wyndham council has announced the transfer station at the municipal tip in Wests Road, Werribee will be closed to the general public from 4pm tomorrow.
The transfer station will remain open to commercial users.
The public shutdown is occurring as part of efforts to limit the spread and impact of the coronavirus.
The council said that the expiry date of tip vouchers will be extended, for the period that the transfer station is closed.
Residents with valid vouchers will be able to exchange them for an additional hard waste collection from their homes.
The council said it was “very aware of the possibility that illegal dumping may increase” as a result of the transfer station being closed to the public.
“We will continue business as usual in monitoring, investigating and prosecuting any illegal dumping across our municipality,” the council said in a notice to residents.
Waste bins will continue to be collected from households as per usual.
See www.wyndham.vic.gov.au for details, or contact 9742 0777 to book a hard waste collection.
