A social media group has been set up encouraging residents in the Woodville Estate in Hoppers Crossing to check in on each other and offer assistance to neighbours who are doing it tough.
The Woodville Residents Facebook group administrator Andrew Elsbury said the community needed to stay connected more than ever before.
“As a community we can work together to ensure our neighbours are OK and have the supplies they need during the COVID19 crisis,” Mr Elsbury said.
“Check in on the elderly to ensure they are well and have what they need to get through.
“If needed, do their shopping for them and then leave it at their doorstep to both protect them and yourself.
“Our group is sharing information from local, state and federal governments to keep everyone informed.”
Mr Elsbury also urged residents to download the VicEmergency App on their phones for regular state and federal government updates.
“I would strongly encourage other neighbourhoods to follow the Woodville example and coordinate assistance for the vulnerable,” he said.
“Who knows the silver lining could be new friendships and a new sense of community across Wyndham.
“We are also encouraging the support of local business during this time of difficulty and after this crisis passes”,
