The Little River Cricket Club is appealing for community help in tracking down a past player named Robert Day.
During celebrations for the club’s 150th anniversary last month, a Legends Team – selected from the 843 players who have represented the club during the past 15 decades – was announced.
The Legends Team members, and in some cases their family members, were presented with a plaque.
However, Little River president Doug Fairchild said the club has been unable to trace Mr Day or any of his relatives.
Mr Day made his debut for the club on October 19, 1974. He played 124 games with a career tally of 1973 runs at 25.97. This included a century (103) and 18 fifty’s. He also took 11 wickets and 46 catches.
A life member of the cricket club, Les Sanderson, said he played alongside Mr Day during the 1970s, in a first XI team.
“Robert was a really tall, elegant batsman, that’s how I found him,” Mr Sanderson said.
“He was a really nice chap, I think he was a chemist or similar, so he was a very clever chap as well.
“I know Robert worked a one of the chemical places in Kororoit Creek Road.
“The last I heard of Robert, he and his wife Sue had moved to Adelaide for work, and they also had two daughters.”
